Throughout its history, Grand Turk has witnessed numerous historical events, from the arrival of the Bermudian salt collectors who founded the country's centuries-long sea salt industry to American astronaut John Glenn's splash landing from outer space in 1962.
The island still retains a colonial heritage through its buildings and old salt salinas. Historical sights and attractions can be found throughout the island, as well as wild donkeys and horses (once the only means of transportation, now free to roam wild.)
