The Bight Beach
West Bay Club is located on the beautiful Bight Beach, which is found to the west of Grace Bay Beach. The Bight Beach offers a different atmosphere, with a more sheltered location, smaller crowds, and lush seagrass growing further offshore.
When seeking the calmest beach when vacationing in the Turks and Caicos, it’s important to understand the wind direction and speed. During typical conditions, the islands experience southeastern trade winds, which usually make the east side coasts a little rougher than those on the western side. The beach in front of the resort is at the most sheltered part of the Bight Beach's coast, and consequently usually has the calmest water of any stretch of the beach.
Snorkeling
A great aspect of the beach near the resort is that it’s within very easy walking distance of The Bight Reef (also known as Coral Gardens), which is the island’s most popular beach snorkeling site. This reef system starts directly off the beach, and continues out for quite a distance. There’s a huge spectrum of colorful reef fish, stingrays, turtles, coral, and the occasional nurse shark.
The verdant seagrass beds that front the Bight Beach also are home to amazing sea creatures. There are starfish, stingrays, eagle rays, baby sharks, turtles, and more.
